The Fourth of July weekend blew up with multiple rescues for the Tonto Rim Search and Rescue team, but those only topped off the many already completed throughout the month of June.

“Sunday, June 2nd presented TRSAR with three simultaneous missions – with the associated scrambling and reassignment of resources as new information came in about each rescue,” said Bill Pitterle, the president of TRSAR.

It’s often hot and difficult to rescue hikers from the trail, but Tonto Rim Search and Rescue volunteers love being on the front lines. During the hot months, that means carrying a lot of water for over heated hikers.

On April 11, 2023, Tonto Rim Search and Rescue volunteers participated in a rescue at Water Wheel. On July 2 in this same location, TRSAR volunteers completed their third rescue of the day by carrying out an injured hiker.

7-2-23: Water Wheel – hiker with injured knee.

7-2-23: Bob Bear Trail at Fossil Springs – assist hikers in need at the bottom.

7-2-23: Solome Canyon Jug Trail – assist hikers who ran out of water.

6-29-23: Bob Bear Trail at Fossil Springs – assist a 60-year old male with medical issues 2 miles down.

6-27-23: Diamond Point – search for missing crystal hunter who was found. “She was real happy to see our teammates arriving at her location.”
